Professional Biography
Assistant Professor, Controlled Environments
Dr. Qinglu Ying is an assistant extension professor in the Department of Horticulture. Dr. Ying received her Ph.D and master's degrees in environmental sciences from University of Guelph investigating how LED light spectra and intensities affect the growth, appearance and nutritional quality of leafy greens as sole or supplemental source in controlled environments. She has previously worked as a research scientist for controlled environment plant production.
Dr. Ying’s extension works support current and emerging controlled environment agriculture (CEA) specialty crop production systems and growers in Kentucky and beyond. Her research focuses on comparing production systems, diversifying crop species and improving the sustainability and efficiency of CEA such as implementing energy efficient lighting strategies, exploring soilless substrates, improving irrigation and nutrient management, etc.
